Be where your boots are
When you go for a hike you wear some sort of foot wear, usually boots. For your safety it is important to be present by paying attention and have your focus be where your boots are. Lots of times our feet are in our boots but our focus is far off. What happens when you are on auto-pilot while hiking? You could miss the rocks or roots in your path and stumble; you could not see danger- a snake, bear, rockslide; you could miss the wildflowers, the gorgeous vistas, the groves of aspens, or the way the sun shines through the waterfall. You could miss the sights, smells, and feelings of being in nature.
The same thing happens when we are on auto-pilot in our lives. What happens when we are not present in our day to day? What happens when we are not paying attention? When we are not where our boots are we are not truly available to experiences, to blessings, or to others. We miss what is right in front of our faces. We don’t see the specialness in the mundane, the fantastic in the familiar, or how spectacular the simple is.
Come with me into the woods. Let’s have a car conversation on the way:
